Making Stuff
From SarahWiki
I'm fond of making things. Over time, I hope to include details about a few of my projects here, and some setup tips for the machinery that I use.
Sieg KX1 Milling Machine
I recently acquired a Sieg KX1 CNC milling machine. After a bit of a fight with the Mach-3 software that shipped with it, I dropped it and went to using EMC2 instead. Though EMC2 does itself have a bit of a learning curve, being a little tricky to set up, once it's working it tends to be absolutely rock solid. I've always found Mach-3 to be flaky bordering on something unreliable enough that I wouldn't want to use it -- it's not really the author's fault, it's the operating system. However, EMC2, running as it does on real-time Linux, tends to be very reliable, and on both of my machines I've never known it miss a step.
